Speaking - Austin Boyd

By nature, I am a communicator.

I love to write, but I also find great satisfaction in presenting a concept to a group. Whether teaching a class, mentoring a group of job seekers, preaching a sermon or speaking to a large dinner group, I love the challenge of conveying an important message through the spoken word. I’m not always good at it, but I keep trying.

I’m an introvert, but when it’s time to take the podium, I pour everything I’ve got into projecting myself, summarizing each subject in a clear and understandable way. Speaking is far more difficult than writing, but every writer needs to learn this skill. There’s no editing. What you say is what you get. Raw and unvarnished. Audiences change, lights fail, projectors break and people sneeze. Speaking is more challenging than any writing I’ve ever done. Once you spend a few minutes at the podium, you’ll find it’s in your blood. . . or it’s your greatest fear.
