When I was a young boy of twelve years age, I began to feel a strong call, perhaps a sense of destiny, to go out and make a difference. I was a ‘nobody’ in a large school. Invisible, surrounded by many people but with few close friends, I was struggling for some sense of purpose. I wanted to make an impact. Life had to be more than simply growing up, making money, and dying. I wanted to do something that mattered.
Perhaps you’ve felt the same tug at your heart, a challenge to get out there and do something that matters, something that will live beyond you. I heard this expressed as “getting outside yourself,” literally doing something that doesn’t benefit you so much as it helps others. That’s what serving is all about.
Would you like to make a difference? In this section of my web site you can learn more about places to engage in your community and invest yourself in the kingdom. You can also learn about “being on mission”. . . mission in your writing, addressing crisis pregnancy, homelessness or brokenness in the family. Whatever you do, don’t surf through these pages and leave here unchallenged. I urge you all to find someone in your community who needs your help. Reach out to the underprivileged, the invisible, the hurting, and the sick people who are under your nose every day. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Be on mission in your own home town. Get involved. Make a difference.
Do something. Do something courageous. Put your faith into action.
Get outside yourself and make life matter.
